Do Terpenes Make Distillate Stronger?

While terpenes don’t make distillate more psychoactive, they do influence the overall experience. Discover how terpenes enhance the aroma, flavor, and effects of distillate.

Let’s just start by saying that distillate is awesome. It’s potent, perfect for dabs and carts, and it’s also incredibly versatile. While it can be enjoyed on its own, distillate can be used as an ingredient in other products to infuse them with various cannabinoids.

While the versatility of distillate is impressive, there will always be both manufacturers and consumers simply looking for products with maximum psychoactive properties. Honestly, there’s nothing wrong with that, and the potency of distillate makes it an excellent choice for that feature. So, will terpenes make distillate even more psychoactive?

Yes and no, but mostly no. Confused? Let us explain.

While some people want stronger psychoactive effects, others seek products that provide more noticeable mood effects. Those are two different things, and terpenes can definitely influence the latter.

So can terpenes create stronger euphoric effects? Stronger relaxation effects? Creativity? Yes! Read on and learn how.

Terpenes Don’t Make Distillate More Psychoactive

Bottom line? Terpenes are not psychoactive. That means adding terpenes to distillate won’t ever increase its psychoactive properties. While terpenes can promote various effects (relaxation, stimulation, euphoria, etc.), that’s not the same as feeling high. Now, let’s really dig into the science.

Terpenes are the organic hydrocarbons produced by most plants. From apples and pine trees to black pepper and roses, plants produce a unique ratio of terpene isolates that make up their terpene profile. Terpenes don’t have psychoactive compounds in them, so there’s simply no way for terpenes to add psychoactive properties to any product.

Even cannabis-derived terpenes won’t get you high unless you combine them with cannabinoids like THC. However, terpenes CAN influence the effects different cannabis strains promote.

Terpenes Increase the Potency of Effects When Added to Distillate

While terpenes don’t contribute to the psychoactive effects of distillate, they do influence specific sensorial effects.

Think of it this way. The point of an airplane is to help you travel to a specific destination. Psychoactive compounds like THC help you get in the air (aka they get you high), but terpenes send you in a specific direction (aka they create specific effects). That’s why different cultivars can have such drastically different effects.

In addition, terpenes work synergistically with the other compounds in cannabis to promote the Entourage Effect. When the various compounds in cannabis are used together, they can produce different and/or stronger effects than they could produce on their own. This is part of the reason people say that terpenes “influence” your high.

It’s also important to remember that while distillate is potent when it comes to psychoactivity, the process of making distillate ends up removing a lot of the natural terpenes. That means it will definitely get you high… but you probably won’t experience specific sensorial effects.

Terpenes Add or Enhance the Aroma and Flavor of Distillate

While aroma and flavor may not be your first concern, it’s something your consumers will absolutely remember. That’s why it’s worth remembering that when the natural terpenes are stripped from the final distillate, a lot of the natural aroma and flavor are also removed.

Fortunately, adding terpenes to distillate will not only ensure that your consumers get the specific effects they’re looking for, but it will also infuse them with aroma and flavor. Our SFV OG Native Series Terpene Profile, for example, can be added to distillate to infuse it with all the dank and earthy goodness that the cultivar is known for. Plus, you’ll ensure your consumers experience the effects that SFV OG is known for (focus, energy, etc.).

You also have the option of infusing distillate with terpene blends in fun flavors designed to promote specific effects. For example, our Honeydew Boba Entourage Series Terpene Blend bursts with ripe melon and creamy, boba-inspired sweetness. If that wasn’t enough, it’s designed to promote feelings of tranquility and peace.

Abstrax Tech Terpenes Promote Stronger Effects in Distillate
