That was the inspiration for our OG Sweet Backwood terpene blend. We wanted a blend that created an authentic tobacco experience without cutting any corners. Get the Tobacco Experience with OG Sweet Backwood

The terpene profile of OG Sweet Backwood is smoky, sweet, herbal, and reminiscent of the forest - Abstrax Tech

Here’s a quick peek at what we’ll be talking about today...

  • This blend combines the flavor and aroma of old school cigar lounges with the endless possibilities that modern products have to offer. You get all the flavor without any unwanted ingredients.
  • Speaking of flavor...it’s smoky yet mildly sweet, herbal yet perfectly spicy. In the end, it’s totally unforgettable.
  • The dominant terpenes that make up this complex blend are humulene, beta-caryophyllene, limonene, linalool, and myrcene.
  • Just like the tobacco products of old, the effects of this terpene blend are complex. It’s uplifting and energizing with subtle calming effects.
  • It’s perfect in a wide variety of inhalable products (e-cigs, vapes, papers, etc.) but it could also be successful in several different aromatherapy products (candles, topicals, oils, etc.).

OG Sweet Backwood Terpene Profile

This blend is meant to infuse modern vape technology with the subtle scent of its classic roots. This is particularly useful for vape products that are designed to eliminate certain compounds that traditional tobacco products contain. OG Sweet Backwood allows you to get just the right scent and taste without any unwanted ingredients. Speaking of scent and taste…

OG Sweet Backwood Terpene Chart - Abstrax Tech

This particular blend is unique because one of its dominant terpenes is humulene. Humulene, also known as alpha-caryophyllene, isn’t necessarily uncommon. It’s normally just found in more modest amounts. That doesn’t mean it’s not pulling its weight though. This isolate plays a big role in the flavor of both hoppy beers and many cannabis strains. This comes as no surprise when you find out that humulene is also found in hops, sage, coriander, and ginseng. Its natural earthy flavor is actually enhanced by the second most dominant terpene in this blend.

Beta-Caryophyllene adds an even deeper spicy flavor to this blend. Found in black pepper, oregano, rosemary, and even cloves, this isolate helps create the complex smoky experience that this blend provides. If you’re thinking that this all sounds really intense and spicy, you’re not wrong. Luckily, the sharpness of D-Limonene cuts through those heavier earthy flavors to provide the perfect amount of sweetness and subtle citrus.

Limonene can be found in a variety of citrus fruits, so it’s no surprise that its flavor is bright, subtly sweet, and perfectly mouthwatering. Thus far, this terpene blend has been a study in contrasts. Grounded earthy aromas and sharp bright flavors. But where’s the balance?

That’s where Linalool and Myrcene come in. Linalool is another isolate that’s normally found in smaller amounts. In this blend, however, its presence is necessary. The soothing flavor of linalool lifts the heavier spicy aromas and creates something that’s more delicate and floral. That should come as no surprise considering that linalool is common in lavender, basil, and even hops.

Myrcene is the isolate that magically brings all these other scents into harmony. Its flavor is somehow earthy, fruity, clove-like, and peppery all at once. It’s kind of hard to imagine something with such a complex flavor. However, if you can believe it, myrcene is found in mangos, parsley, ylang-ylang, and hops. This isolate manages to tick all the previously ticked boxes without emphasizing any flavor too much. Instead, it weaves all of them together in a complex aromatic tapestry that’s perfectly reminiscent of cigar smoke.

OG Sweet Backwood Terpene Blend - Abstrax Tech

We won’t lie, we’re pretty proud of this one. The only thing more impressive than its flavor and aroma is its effects.

The OG Sweet Backwood Effect

We’ll start with one word--uplifting. Well, maybe calming is better. Actually, it’s uplifting, calming, invigorating, creative...let’s just say that the OG Sweet Backwood effect is complex.

That’s because the isolates used to make this blend have a wide variety of effects. For example, beta-caryophyllene is a powerful anti-inflammatory and has been shown to have antidepressant and anxiolytic effects. There have even been studies indicating that beta-caryophyllene helps to release endorphins that can reduce pain and boost mood. A better mood, less inflammation, and less pain? We’ll take it!

On the other end of the spectrum, isolates like linalool and myrcene add a calming element to this blend. Plants and essential oils that contain lots of linalool have been used for hundreds of years for their calming, sedative effects. If you’ve ever wondered why the scent of lavender sometimes puts you to sleep, you have linalool to thank for that. In addition, myrcene is so relaxing, that it’s actually one of the terpenes used to dictate whether a cannabis strain is considered Indica or Sativa (a strain with more than .5% myrcene by weight is considered Indica).

Honestly, the effects of this blend should be complex. Consider all the reasons why people tend to use tobacco products. Some people use them in the morning or on their lunch breaks to put an energetic pep in their step. Others use them at the end of the day or after they’ve finished a task to relax and wind down. To some extent, people react more powerfully to certain terpenes than others, and there’s no better example than the variety of responses to OG Sweet Backwood. No matter what those responses are though, consumers have a habit of coming back for them again and again.

What Products Can Benefit from OG Sweet Backwood

The most obvious answer to that is any product that’s meant to be inhaled. If the whole point of this blend is to reminisce about old school tobacco flavors, then one of the best ways to enjoy them is the sensual, tactile experience of inhaling and exhaling.

Vapes, e-cigarettes, topicals, and even aromatherapy can all benefit from OG Sweet Backwood - Abstrax Tech

That means e-cigarettes, vape pens, cartridges, mods, the works. This is a botanically sourced terpene blend, so it’s appropriate for tobacco, cannabis, hemp, and even unique herbal products. Depending on your product, you even have the option of using wraps, papers, blunts, and cones that have been infused with OG Sweet Backwood. Honestly, the possibilities are pretty endless. Speaking of possibilities...

One of the beautiful things about terpenes is that you can use them in a variety of products. Just because a consumer has moved away from inhalants doesn’t mean they don’t still long for those flavors and aromas. There’s a wide-open space in the aromatherapy industry just waiting for smoky, sweet flavors. We’re thinking OG Sweet Backwood infused candles, oils, and even topicals. This blend would be particularly successful in a balm, lotion, or salve because of its d-limonene content (limonene enhances skin penetration in topical products).
