Terp to Table presents: Slushy Day

Beat the Heat

Here in Southern California it's currently 91°F. That may not be too hot by the rest of the country's standards, but we sure are feeling sweaty and sluggish . In lieu of shade, and dreading the oppressive furnace of our automobile interiors during the drive home, we decided to arm ourselves with a frozen treat to beat the heat.

Enter the lemon slushy.

Two schools of thought around this drink run, roughly, as follows:

With Alcohol                              Without

One thing both schools agree upon: include the lemon rind.

The zesty pith you usually discard is packed with vitamin and great oils, it'll make your drink aromatic, and it's what lifts this glorified lemonade to the next level.

So let's unpack a recipe or two.

The Bitter Life

(life gave us lemons, so we added booze)

1/2 Cup Freshly squeezed lemon juice

1/2 Cup soda water (or water, if you're in a pinch)

3/4 Cup sugar (or 1 oz simple syrup)

3 lemon slices (about half a lemon; use the lemon you squeezed the juice from)

1 oz elderberry liquor

2 oz good vodka (Tito's anyone?)

1 drop Chemdawg terpenes

3 cups ice (crushed, if your freezer dispense is willing to work for you)

Put everything in the blender except the ice. Blend until reasonably well combined.
Gradually add the ice and blend to incorporate, until it looks smooth and slushy.

Pour in an empty Icee cup so no one is the wiser, and enjoy!

The John Lemon

(humble, modest, profound)

1 1/2 cups water

1 cup ice

2 cups frozen mango (or pineapple, if mango is too expensive or hard to find)

2 TBs Chia Seeds

1 drop Lemon Cake terpenes

1 Lemon Slice (about an inch or so thick)

Toss everything into a blender, puree until smooth, and find some shade, cause you're about to be chillin.
