Top 10 Terpene Profiles Analyzed from Sauce

The numbers are in! Discover our top 10 terpene profiles analyzed from Sauce.

Sauce is made using solvent-based extraction, which can take anywhere from several days to several weeks. That may seem a bit extreme, but the quality of the final product is well worth the wait. One glance at that terpene-rich liquid and the crystalline cannabinoid “diamonds” floating on its surface, and you’ll start to understand our obsession.

Making high-terpene extracts like these isn’t for beginners, but their robust aromatics make them ideal for some of the research that goes into our Native Series profiles. We model each profile off of the “best” version of each cultivar. Sometimes, that means flower, rosin, or — you guessed it — Sauce.

While our list of profiles analyzed from Sauce is always growing, some profiles clearly have a dedicated following. Some are profiles of legendary cultivars, and others are based on newer cultivars consumers already love

Curious what those profiles might be? Read on and discover our top ten profiles analyzed from Sauce.

While most cannabis lovers have their preferred concentrate, we know they all have something valuable to offer. That’s not some sentimental statement, either.

To understand the difference between them, we measured the aromatic profiles of Tropaya flower, live resin, and solventless rosin. While the top terpenes were relatively similar across products, slight differences created unique aromas, flavors, and even sensorial effects.

Why is this important? These differences didn’t denote quality. They just created more options for consumers to find their preferred products.

Resin, Rosin, or Flower: An Investigation of the Aroma Profiles of Cannabis Products

Super Lemon Haze Strain Terpenes | Abstrax Tech

10. Super Lemon Haze

Descended from Lemon Skunk and Super Silver Haze, this fan favorite is known for its focused, citrus-forward aroma. The cultivar has won multiple Cannabis Cups, and with Terplytics like this, it’s no wonder it ranked 4th on our list of Top 5 Haziest Cultivars we’ve analyzed so far.

You might assume d-Limonene is responsible for this cultivar's bright lemon aroma, but recent research has dethroned that isolate as the citrus flavor maker. Like other hazes, Super Lemon Haze is actually dominant in terpinolene and has a uniquely sweet citrus aroma with hints of pine and a peppery finish.

The Runtz family is massively popular and often imitated. It all started by crossing Zkittlez and Gelato, and it JUST missed out on being in our list of Top 10 Loudest Cultivars we’ve analyzed. Clearly, however, you’re all still loving its mouthwatering dankness.

To do justice to this candy-forward cultivar, we analyzed Runtz OG sauce to create our true-to-type RNTZ OG profile. Dominant isolates d-Limonene, beta-Myrcene, and alpha-Pinene give this terpene profile the sweet & sour brightness and creamy finish that the beloved cultivar is known for.

Blue Cheese Strain Terpenes tilted right | Abstrax Tech

8. Blue Cheese

If you haven’t experienced the provocative aroma of Blue Cheese, stop everything you’re doing and get your hands on this immediately. Cheese strains are unlike anything else, and as a cross between Skunk #1 and Blueberry, this cultivar is a standout among its family.

The dominant terpene isolates beta-Caryophyllene, d-Limonene, and Linalool are partially responsible for its unique combination of funky savoriness and berries. While it may sound a bit too odd, the sweet dankness of Blue Cheese has clearly created a die-hard fan base.

7. Dynasty OG

It’s the fifth loudest cultivar we’ve measured so far, it has drool-worthy OG genetics, and you’re probably not shocked to see it on this list — it’s Dynasty OG. Notoriously loud and gassy, this OG Kush descendant has inherited a shocking amount of aromatic power.

Dominant terpenes beta-Myrcene, d-Limonene, and beta-Pinene contribute to the iconic elements of pine, citrus, and earth. You didn’t think we forgot those intensely strong notes of fuel, did you? This true-to-type profile brings all the deafening notes of pungent gas you’d expect from Dynasty OG.

6. Outer Space

It may have only landed on earth fairly recently, but this cultivar has already created a cult following. Mysterious origins aside, we can all agree that Outer Space is phenomenal for daytime use or whenever you need a heavy hit of creative inspiration.

Hailing from Island Sweet Skunk and Trinity, Outer Space has an invigorating aroma that’ll propel you through your to-do list. Terpenes beta-Myrcene, beta-Caryophyllene, and d-Limonene help create the beautiful combination of skunk and soft woody aromas with the delicate sweetness of citrus and berries.

Sour Apple Strain Terpenes | Abstrax Tech

5. Sour Apple

Exotic and gassy, Sour Apple is the kind of cultivar that sets the vibe for summer road trips and side quests. Considering it’s a cross between euphoric Cinderella 99 and energizing Sour Diesel, we’re not surprised that so many keep reaching for this fruit-forward profile.

Also known as Sour Apple Diesel, terpenes beta-Caryophyllene, d-Limonene, and alpha-Pinene help create the gas-forward, citrus aroma that you all seem so obsessed with.

4. Cherry Zlushie

It’s no wonder you can’t seem to get enough of Cherry Zlushie! It has a whopping 100% Exotic Score and hails from flavor-forward cultivars Ice Cream Cake, Grape Zkittles, and Gelato 41. We’re drooling just thinking about it.

While terpene isolate Linalool is generally found in small amounts, it’s the dominant terpene in Cherry Zlushie. That being the case, it’s not terribly surprising that it has a unique floral aroma. It’s the addition of stone fruits like cherries, nectarines, and straight gas that make this cultivar truly unforgettable.

3. Jelly Rancher

Okay, we get it! You like profiles with juicy aromas and high Exotic Factors. So, it’s no surprise that Jelly Rancher really fits that bill. Descended from Very Cherry and Notorious THC, Jelly Rancher inherited a delicious berry-forward aroma with the perfect background of gas.

The aroma of this cultivar is hard to pin down. For example, despite its undeniable citrus and berry flavors, spicy beta-Caryophyllene and alpha-Caryophyllene are major players in its profile. They may provide added depth to the pungent hit of skunk, though. Whatever the case, Jelly Rancher’s flirty aroma always seems to keep people coming back for more.

2. Blue Dream

Almost everyone has heard of Blue Dream, and most claim they’ve tried it a time or two. We just wanted you to experience the sexiest, most iconic aroma of Blue Dream. So we searched for years, found the best version, and modeled our profile off of a particularly juicy sauce. We don’t want to flex too hard, but it’s our 2nd most popular profile analyzed from Sauce… so you do the math.

Descended from iconic cultivars Blueberry and Haze, our Blue Dream profile captures the delicate sweetness, citrus, grounding earth, and blueberry notes (duh) that made this cultivar so loved.

1. Super Sour Diesel

Surprising no one, Super Sour Diesel is our most popular profile analyzed from Sauce. You likely already know it hails from legendary cultivars, and with Terplytics like these, it’s no surprise that it’s the 4th loudest we’ve measured (so far).

Descended from Super Silver Haze and Sour Diesel, this cultivar is wildly pungent with fuel-forward notes of pine, earth, and citrus. Don’t worry, we made sure to capture every last drop of unforgettable dankness in our Super Sour Diesel profile.

Terpene Profiles Analyzed From Sauce

As a cross between Super Silver Haze and Sour Diesel, it should come as no surprise that Super Sour Diesel is fuel-forward with pungent notes of pine, earth, and citrus. Prepare for a sauce that’s unforgettably potent.

After years of searching, we’ve discovered the best version of this cultivar and modeled it from a particularly juicy sauce. This invigorating blend of sweet blueberries captures the sexiest, most iconic version of Blue Dream.

Just when you think you’ve nailed it, the Jelly Rancher aroma takes a flirtatious left turn. It’s undeniably fruity with a pungent hit of skunk, and a slight background of gas gives elusive notes of citrus and berry an unexpected glow-up.

Hailing from dessert-fueled cultivars like Ice Cream Cake and Gelato 41, Cherry Zlushie is a lesson in balance. The surprising floral combo of gas and stone fruits like cherries and nectarines elevates the mind and instills a sense of peace.

Once upon a time, Sour Diesel and Cinderella 99… scratch that. This isn’t that kind of story. An injection of gas transforms the fruity citrus notes of Sour Apple into a focus-fueled fantasy that’ll tease, tantalize, and damn near torment.

Sure, astronauts travel to low Earth orbit, but Outer Space is a whole different story. Soft woody aromas combine with surprisingly light notes of skunk. Subtle hints of citrus and berries infuse it with a delicate sweetness.

Dynasty OG has inherited all of the authoritative dankness of its OG Kush lineage. Regal elements of pine, citrus, and earth merge with loud gassy aromas to inspire loyalty, relaxation, and respect for the OG.

As a cross between Skunk #1 and Blueberry, Blue Cheese has a provocative and unusual aroma. Sweet meets sour with the tantalizing fusion of candy-like berries, notes of dank cheese, and just a dash of gas.

If you're a fan of Pixy Stix, you'll appreciate the sweet and sour candy notes of this blend. It'll hit you with shockingly bright citrus before it slams into a spicy finishing move. It's fresh, mouthwatering, and always leaves you wanting more.

Super Lemon Haze has a zesty lemon aroma that’s candy-like without overpowering the senses. The subtlest hint of pine sets off the flavor and makes it a heady solution for daytime errands, hikes, or afternoon lulls.
