Abstrax Genetics: The Strains That Built the Science of Exotic

Crafted through relentless phenohunting, these cultivars are the foundation of our research redefining the flavor and aroma of exotic cannabis.

If you’ve ever wanted to taste the vibrant flavors behind our exotic cannabis research, we’ve got great news for you. Introducing the latest expansion of our Native Series – Abstrax Genetics!

These profiles are crafted by analyzing the cultivars featured in our Science of Exotic research.¹ They aren’t just any cultivars, though. These were lovingly grown by OUR experts in genetics and cultivation. From the lush fruit and petroleum in Juiceman to the sweet, provocative musk of Grape Dosi #4, each plant is the result of countless hours of phenohunting and expert chemical analysis.

These strains are the foundation of many of our key scientific breakthroughs, and they were pivotal in developing the ever-expanding Periodic Table of Flavorants. Offering them to YOU is the next step in elevating the entire cannabis industry.

The novel genetics of these cultivars represent our dedication to research, optimal cultivation practices, and expanding what’s possible in cannabis flavor experiences. To put it simply? You and your customers have never experienced ANYTHING like this before.

Learn what makes Abstrax Genetics unlike any other terpene profiles on the market and how they can put your products into a new league of premiumization.

Juiceman Strain Terpenes | Abstrax Tech tilted right

What is Abstrax Genetics?

In our Science of Exotic Cannabis research, we sought to understand why two strains with the same dominant terpenes could smell so dramatically different. To do this, we conducted a phenohunt to zero in on specific aromas and uncover the science behind their distinctions. In addition to uncovering over 60 new aromatic compounds, we cultivated some truly exquisite strains.

Now, you get to experience those strains with our Abstrax Genetics profiles.

We took all of the best practices of phenohunting and incorporated cutting-edge chemical analysis (aka chemohunting) to cultivate strains with the exact aromatic characteristics we wanted.² Our team targeted the compounds that make savory strains savory, fruity strains fruity, gassy strains… you get it.

Exotic Cannabis Aroma Spectrum | Abstrax Tech

Once we cultivated plants with the BEST version of those characteristics (we’re talking about undeniable aromas that blow your face off), we recreated them using our botanical terpenes. And we didn’t create these profiles based on a single sample; we extracted and analyzed hundreds of samples.

These plants change every day, but we’re able to get the best of the best. When we find the best, we’re able to go through and then qualify that with our equipment as well as our sensory panelists. What’s even better is that we don’t have to go back to 2018 and get THAT best of the best. We can reproduce that with our botanically derived terpenes.

Our advanced capabilities in chemical analysis help us identify, preserve, and recreate the complete sensory experience of these plants. This is what makes Abstrax Genetics profiles distinctly recognizable, with the full spectrum of flavors and aromas that span from in-your-face savory to tropical and fuel-forward like Papaya Peach.

The Case for Chemohunting White Paper | Abstrax

Abstrax Genetics Elevates the Cannabis Industry

From cultivation efforts and product formulation to consumer experiences and overall quality standards, our genetic research and the resulting Abstrax Genetics profiles act as a blueprint that can elevate the entire cannabis industry.

For example, imagine a plant displays a unique characteristic under times of stress. While it may negatively impact yield, that unique characteristic could fuel the most wildly delicious flavor and aroma. Scenarios like this can be the genesis of an iconic strain’s aromatic fingerprint.

Instead of then attempting to recreate that specific aroma through multiple generations of breeding, we can skip to the finish line. Cultivators can save time, money, and resources by having plants analyzed so specific flavors and aromas can be identified and recreated. No more guesswork and no more elusive flavor profiles.

In addition to illustrating the effectiveness of chemohunting for cannabis breeders, we’re also bringing the industry new flavors, aromas, and experiences that consumers will come back for again and again.

Our focus on cultivating distinctly recognizable flavor and aroma profiles creates more nuanced and memorable experiences for end-consumers. Not only that, but the ability to consistently recreate these experiences allows the industry to establish a level of consumer trust that hasn’t been possible until now.

A particularly tricky hurdle for the cannabis industry is brand loyalty. According to a 2022 Mintel report, fewer than one-third of consumers value brand, particularly among consumers under 35. However, that age group is typically more likely than older groups to consider brand when purchasing cannabis products, so creating connections with that demographic can be valuable.³

For a consumer to develop loyalty to a brand, its products must be readily available, consistent, and offer a reliable experience. Not only does Abstrax Genetics remove supply chain issues that can negatively influence availability, consistency, and experience, but it also provides consumers with enhanced sensory experiences they won’t find anywhere else.

Put more simply? Abstrax Genetics gives brands the opportunity to grow customer lifetime value through deeper brand loyalty.

Grape Dosi #4 Strain Terpenes | Abstrax Tech

Cultivated at Pro Farms in the Terpene Belt of California

The location for our cultivation efforts was incredibly important, and we intentionally set up shop in the “Terpene Belt” of California.

Pro Farms, located in Santa Barbara, is less than ten miles from the coast, and the unique climate supports a variety of plants that are prized for their flavor and aroma.⁴ This climate is classified as cool Mediterranean, and the area is generally warm and dry during the summer months but cool and moist during the winter. When it comes to the unique growing conditions of this region, that's just the beginning.

For example, Santa Barbara wine country lies between two mountain ranges with varying elevations, microclimates, and soil types. Cool winds off the ocean funnel breezes and fog through the valley in a phenomenon known as the “coriolis effect.” Temperatures peak during the day between 70–80 °F and can drop around 50 °F in the evening.⁵

In addition to supporting a wide variety of wine grapes, these conditions support truly exquisite cannabis. The area is warm enough for plants to express robust aromatics and cool enough to protect these volatile compounds from degradation. This has allowed us to cultivate cannabis with rich and nuanced aroma profiles.

Dr. Kirk Azevedo explains that this unique area allows us to cultivate cannabis that’s “savory, sweet, and everything in between. So all of these different plants, all these different cultivars, have a particular characteristic that you can experience, and your customers will experience it too.”

Abstrax Genetics | Botanical Terpene Profiles Phenohunted by Abstrax

Who knew crossing Fabuloso and Papaya would create such an ecstatically sweet aroma? Juiceman lives up to its name with a medley of lush berries, apples, and stone fruit over a bright base of clean petroleum orange.

Only an exotic fusion of Grape Pie and Dosidos could create an aroma so provocative. Grape Dosi #4 melds the sweetness of dark berries and grapes with a dank base that’s part gas, part savory earthy musk, and entirely irresistible.

Descended from Papaya and a cross of Granola Funk and Peach Oz, Papaya Peach is loud, fuel-forward, and tropical. Enjoy the surprisingly smooth combo of stone fruit, tangerine, and mandarine orange atop layers of dank, earthy wood.
