Strawnana, also known as Strawberry Banana, is among the most recognized fruit-forward cannabis cultivars on the market, and its notes of ripe strawberry and creamy banana are equally successful across vapes, gummies, and pre-rolls. It has a history of awards across formats, and with the recent increase in consumer demand for dessert weed strains, it makes sense that Strawnana is trending again.
BDSA Consumer Insights data show that flavor is a top driver of edible and beverage product choice, and two of the three best-selling flavors in tracked markets were Strawberry Lemonade and Fruit Punch.¹ With its fruity strawberry-forward profile, the Strawnana flavor and aroma already meet widespread consumer preferences.
With a flavor and aroma that’s successful across product types, brands can use Strawnana to introduce consumers to formats they might not otherwise try. Whether that means larger basket sizes from current shoppers or entirely new customers, it means more revenue for your brand.
Learn about the compounds driving Strawnana's aroma profile, what Terplytics data reveals about its character and intensity, and discover marketing and formulation opportunities unique to this fruity strain.
The Strawberry Banana strain was cultivated by DNA Genetics in collaboration with Serious Seeds as a cross of Banana Kush and Bubble Gum. Banana Kush brings tropical banana sweetness and dense resin output, while a unique “Strawberry” phenotype of the classic Bubble Gum strain contributes berry brightness and the stable growth traits that have made Strawnana a reliable cultivar across pheno selections and extraction runs.
So, what qualifies Strawnana as exotic rather than simply sweet? Bubble Gum is one of the more historically significant sweet-exotic cultivars in cannabis breeding with a profile dominated by candy-sweet and berry-bubble gum notes. Banana Kush carries Ghost OG in its lineage, which introduces a resinous weight that prevents Strawnana from reading as flat or one-dimensional.
Its genetic foundation is also why Strawnana produces the kind of trichome density that would later give it a competitive edge. Its first place win in the Solventless Concentrate category at the 2015 World Cannabis Cup² proved that it could hold up under extraction and resonate with discerning judges. From there, a second-place Infused Pre-Roll finish at the 2020 High Times Cannabis Cup Oklahoma People's Choice Edition³ showed that Strawnana was competitive across formats.
Many consider Strawnana to be an indica strain, but terms like indica and sativa have more to do with subspecies and plant biology than effects. That being said, many candy gas strains are considered indicas, so it wouldn’t be inaccurate to call Strawnana an indica-leaning hybrid.
Strawnana's dominant aromatic character is ripe strawberry over creamy banana, with a sweetness that reads closer to fruity candy than fresh produce. The profile is bright on top, smooth in the middle, and carries just enough Kush weight underneath to prevent it from tipping into perfume.
Dominant terpene d-Limonene provides the citrus brightness at the top of Strawnana's aroma. Found naturally in citrus fruit rinds, Limonene contributes the zesty brightness that keeps the strawberry character from reading as flat or overly sweet.
Ocimene, specifically trans-beta-Ocimene, is the most differentiating compound in Strawnana, and the one most worth flagging for formulators. Compared to other profiles in our catalog, Ocimene is present in high concentrations and it’s part of the reason this profile smells exotic rather than generically fruity. It’s found naturally in mint, parsley, orchids, a range of tropical fruits,⁴ and it imparts a sweet, herbaceous, slightly floral quality.
Aside from the rarity of these concentrations, formulators should note Ocimene’s ability to cut through citrus and earthier, woody aromas with its pronounced sweetness. That means dialing in the right ratio of Ocimene is important for formulators who want their Strawnana products to smell as cultivar-specific as possible.
Myrcene provides the earthy, musky base that helps anchor the Strawnana profile. Present in ripe mangoes, lemongrass, hops, and a wide variety of other cannabis cultivars, beta-Myrcene contributes a subtle fruit depth that prevents d-Limonene and Ocimene top notes from reading as thin or sharp.
It’s also worth noting that we can’t attribute all of this cultivar’s sweetness to just one or two compounds. Our advanced analytical testing has identified flavorants (specifically sweet esters like senecioates, tiglates, isopropyl butyrate, and isobutyl hexanoate) in our analysis of fruity strains like Papaya, and we’re still studying whether they play a role in Strawnana’s sweet fruity aroma.
Our Native Series Strawnana profile was developed from rosin analysis using two-dimensional gas chromatography (GCxGC-TOF-MS/FID/SCD), the same advanced methodology used across the Science of Exotic Cannabis research series.⁵
Our proprietary Terplytics system is the next generation of cannabis analytics. It allows us to deliver the most advanced botanical testing for exploratory research, sensory quantification, strain validation, product development, and consumer insights. It’s also how we developed the Exotic Factor and the Loud Factor.
TERPLYTICS
EXOTIC FACTOR: 100%
LOUD FACTOR: 80%
The Exotic Factor measures the intensity of exotic flavors and aromas including sweet, fruity, or creamy notes, and a high exotic score reflects a complex profile that goes well beyond common terpene combinations. Strawnana’s 100% Exotic Factor reflects the elevated trans-beta-Ocimene concentration and the ester-driven sweetness that standard terpene panels don't capture.
Exotic profiles can be found in both sativa and indica cultivars, and the compounds that contribute to these aromas are typically esters, alcohols, and/or aldehydes. Other cultivars with high Exotic Factors include Blue Dream, FPOG, GDP, Candyland, Orange Apricot, Apple Fritters, and more.
The Loud Factor quantifies pungency by assigning scores to individual compounds based on their olfactory impact, not total aromatics by weight. This matters because some flavorants are intensely pungent at concentrations measured in parts per trillion. That’s something a standard terpene panel will never be able to pick up on.
Strawnana has over a decade of competitive validation and a flavor profile that matches what consumers are already shopping for in several product formats.
As a dessert weed strain, Strawnana occupies an aroma category with durable consumer interest. Sweet and fruity profiles have maintained strong shelf presence even as more exotic gas-forward categories have expanded. While Strawnana’s profile is fruity and sweet, that doesn’t automatically place it within the Candy Gas category. This aroma position makes Strawnana appealing to consumers who want sweet, fruity characters without gassy intensity.
The forward-looking commercial case is in edibles and beverages. BDSA reports that cannabis beverages reached $54.6 million in Q1 2025, a 15% year-over-year increase, with flavor cited as a primary purchase driver among edible consumers. The beverage flavors leading that growth are fruity and familiar, which is the exact aroma territory Strawnana occupies. For brands formulating in these categories, Strawnana is a natural fit.
Strawnana's 100% Exotic Factor, Cannabis Cup wins across multiple formats, and fruit-candy aroma make it one of the more versatile dessert profiles available.
Vapes are the strongest format fit for Strawnana. D-Limonene and trans-beta-Ocimene both volatilize at low temperatures, so the strawberry-forward top notes are immediately present on the palate, and the 80% Loud Factor means the aroma will be noticeable with every hit.
Infused pre-rolls benefit from Strawnana’s aromatic profile and its name recognition. Consumers smell a pre-roll before their first inhale, and the Strawnana aroma announces itself right when they open the package. Before that happens, the name itself does real work at point of sale. Budtenders can describe it in two words and most consumers already know what to expect.
Gummies are a natural fit for the ester-driven sweetness of Strawnana. This aroma chemistry integrates easily with gummy base formulations. Plus, the Strawnana strain effortlessly lends itself to packaging and marketing stories with a focus on fresh fruit and vibrant flavors.
Beverage demand is growing and Strawnana is uniquely positioned to succeed in this format. Fruit flavors are popular in THC beverages because consumers recognize them. Strawnana appeals to those who already love the strain, and new consumers will know what it tastes like from the name alone. Cannabis beverage growth is flavor-driven, and Strawnana’s profile aligns with the flavors consumers are already shopping for.
With a name that sells itself and a profile that works across a number of product formats, Strawnana is one of a very small number of strains that can appeal to connoisseurs and newcomers alike.
Blending Strawnana with terpene isolates, blends, or other profiles allows formulators to create custom Strawnana profiles that serve a variety of consumer segments and brand propositions.
Adding an isolate like d-Limonene amplifies the citrus top notes already present, and something like Valencene adds an orange adjacent note that’s unlike anything else on the market. The result for both is a crisp, more electric fruit expression.
If your customer demand for dessert flavors is high, consider pairing Strawnana with other sweet or confectionary flavors. Banana Creme Brulee creates a more sophisticated take on the banana notes, or you could push the banana element into candy territory with something like Banana Candy. Blending with Sour Apple would take that traditional fruit note and give it an unexpected edge. This direction suits gummies where consumers often shop for candy and dessert profiles.
For brands whose product lineup lives primarily in dank, gassy territory, consider using Strawnana as a doorway into sweet, dessert flavors. Pair Strawnana with a Chem Gas profile like Garlic Cookies to create a sensory experience that’s fuel-forward, floral, and sweet. On the other hand, pairing it with something like 24K Gold would give it the electric, tropical citrus found in the Tangie Gas category.
By blending Strawnana with gassy profiles, brands can test fruit-forward profiles to attract new customers without losing the pungency their existing customers expect.

Standard terpene panels capture 30 to 50 compounds. Our GCxGC-TOF-MS/FID/SCD analysis captures over 400, including the elevated trans-beta-Ocimene concentration that drives Strawnana's 100% Exotic Factor score. A generic fruit terpene blend can never replicate that.

Our Strawnana is... different. It's got less gas than some cuts, but it has way more fruity and exotic citrusy flavor notes. The rosin we analyzed is very high in trans-beta-ocimene, a terp you don't usually find in that strength.
As its name suggests, d-Limonene has a loud citrus flavor and smell. It is found in oranges, limes, lemons, grapefruits, and many other citrus fruits.
beta-Myrcene is a prevalent terpene in hops, mango, bay leaves, lemongrass, and eucalyptus. The flavor is a strong sweetness with minty balsam and a vegetal leafy feel.
Ribbons of smooth vanilla transform this classic Banana Creme Brulee into your next favorite indulgence. It’s luxuriously creamy, lightly tropical, and brimming with intensely sweet notes of caramelized banana.
Banana Candy envelops the senses and evokes memories of quarter machines with vibrant yellow candies clattering into outstretched hands. One final drop of potent vanilla and this blend will have you peering through time. Banana Candy might not actually be magic, but it sure does taste that way.
Is it a green Granny Smith? A blushing Pink Lady? Who cares when it’s so marvelously sour! Its floral nectar is sweet and juicy, but the joyous cacophony of tang and tart is what keeps you coming back for Sour Apple.
With notes of garlic, onion, and mushroom, Garlic Cookies is deliciously odd. Relaxing hints of spice meld with vegetal and floral aromas for an unusual combo of sweet and savory. It’s saucy, satisfying, and entirely unforgettable.
A child of Tangie and Kosher Kush, 24K Gold introduced the world to "Tangie Gas". Bred by DNA Genetics, one of the most awarded and influential names in cannabis history, this profile honors the legacy of California flavor that changed cannabis forever.
